Please remember the Golden Rule of Masterchan! 1) Golden Rule: When discussing anything, use arguments to explain your position. Saying an opinion is right/wrong or that something is good/bad without justification is frowned upon. This rule exists to inspire a culture where users expect arguments from posters, to prevent viral marketeers/shills and also to prevent people from making accusations of them.

Does anyone know what anime this comes from?

>>

It's been several years since I saw it but I'm fairly certain that it is from Blood+

>>

Maybe Hellsing

>>

>>855 Thank you, good sir

>>

It's from the OVA series Hellsing Ultimate. 10 episodes all about 45 mins or an hour each. Worth the watch.

>Would anyone reccommend a series similar or better like Gunslinger Girl? I had my music on shuffle and came across the GG soundtrack. Havent heard it in years and it brought me back to this amazing anime. Id love if there was more or similar anime that I can get into (Second season was shit so I had a bad taste of feeling incomplete) I know there are a lot of "cute girls with guns" anime but Im talking about dramatic gun action with girls. Great story. Amazing music OST Anything?

>>

Well I don't know any since it's not my cup of tea in anime , but I can give you this website where you could put your anime's name and on its page you have a tab "recomendation" with a brief summary of why it is recomended. So you could try over here myanimelist .net Sorry to not help you more than that but since this board is not often visited I figured that i would be better than letting some one come up with a reply 3 month too late. Hope you will find what you seek buddy.

>>845 Try Gunsmith cats or Black Lagoon. Black Lagoon in particular is very intense. Also, if you're looking for anime that is just very violent try Gantz, Shiki, or Elfen Lied.

This is a reminder that if you thought the Attack on Titan anime was good. You're a fucking fuckhead. Attack on Titan was fucking awful.

>>809 Oh, I didn't think it would matter because nobody posts here anyways. I don't think the story is bad, I picked up the manga because I wanted to know how it ended and its going in a direction that I could never have dreamed. But the problem with the anime was exposition. An average episode can be summed up like this. >An interesting plot point happens that puts people in danger. >Exposition ensues >jump to showing characters in danger because this exposition is not resolved >continue exposition >jump to showing characters in danger because this exposition is not resolved >continue exposition >jump to showing characters in danger because this exposition is not resolved >continue exposition >jump to showing characters in danger because this exposition is not resolved >finish exposition >event is resolved >cliffhanger The show is so bogged down in exposition that it moves at a snails pace. By the time they get around to the big reveals and the plot, you're just bored to tears because nothing has happened. my post was too long and I have to rewrite everything again, so continued in part 2

>>

>>810 SPOILERS AHEAD There's a running theme throughout the anime. That if you don't fight, you can't win. This is clearly expressed multiple times throughout the anime and the manga. and by the time we get to hearing Mikasa's backstory during the defense of trost, we've already heard it before. But they then spend an entire episode giving a through backstory of why Mikasa is as she is and it all boils down to "Eren taught me that if you don't fight, you can't win." The whole story could have been relayed in 5 minutes as most of the elements within her backstory never come up again and only served the purpose of getting that one message across. And when it finally gets to the point that she has to fight "or else she can't win" they stretch it out into a scene that's too long and can't have any tension because we already know what is going to happen. Then, an episode or two later when everybody is getting ready to kill Eren because they know he can turn into a titan. The whole episode is then geared towards more exposition in which Armin comes to the exact same conclusion. They try to build tension by putting the three main characters in danger, but the tension is completely destroyed on the basis that we know they're not going to kill off the three main characters this early. And that they already pretended to kill off Eren three episodes prior.

>>

>>811 And when they're not using exposition to tell us that if you can't fight you can't win. They're using it to spell out the plot twists that haven't yet happened, so by the time that they do they're unsurprising. All in all, I think attack on titan is a garbage anime because it moves so slowly that by the time anything happens, you're more excited that something has happened at all rather than being excited for whats going to happen next as you should be. In contrast, the manga is great because you can skim through all the exposition in 5 minutes as opposed to 18 without missing out on any plot. Great story, but terrible execution.

Sailor Moon. The English dub of it aired on YTV during the mid nineties when I was in elementary school. Also season one of Dragonball and Escaflowne. Oddly Ninja Scroll when Teletoon debuted and they could get away with airing that. Naruto for me was late highschool. Christ you fucking kids starting out on that caliber stuff, can't fathom it. Actually watched shitty sub's of vampire princess miyu off kazaa before Naruto.

>>

>>784 I remember watching like one or two episodes on Kids WB (?) way back in the day. Also Cardcaptor Sakura and Pokemon but that was before I knew it was anime. I just thought it was another english cartoon. So technically late 90's but I started with YYH later on. Anime wasn't exactly known as such until the early 2000's anyways...

>>
Media deleted

>>803 >Cardcaptor Sakura and Pokemon but that was before I knew it was anime. how do you differentiate between cartoon and anime? to me if it's made in Japan it's anime if it's from the West it's cartoon but this is wrong and i know it. I know some production differences, like for cartoon they record the characters voices before drawing and i know both have some different art styles but still I never can't genuinely tell what is what.

>>

>>804 Well, considering "anime" is a Japanese word for "cartoon" (essentially) I just tag that to all Japanese animated shows.

I want to talk about a serious topic here. And I welcome every opinion you may have. It is the Whitewashing of anime by the Western world. Japan has done their fair share of whitewashing their own anime work with the abundance of Western phenotype features: white faces, brown-blond hair, blue-green eyes, large sunken eyes...etc. But when the character is Japanese, is it right to choose a white person to play that character in live-action versions? I'm sure you know where I'm going with this - yes, its Scarlett Johansson as the lead in 'Ghost in the Shell' to play Motoko Kusanagi. By casting a white American actors/actress in lieu of the original ethnic actors/actresses, films whitewashes a character who is clearly meant to be non-white. This not only disrespects the original source but perpetuates Hollywood's racist habit of ignoring people of colour in order to promote white movie stars. Lets not forget last summer’s “Edge of Tomorrow,” which starred Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, which is based on the Japanese novel “All You Need Is Kill” by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. For the film, the novel’s protagonist was changed from an Asian soldier named Keiji Kiriya to a white one named William Cage, played by Cruise. Or 2010' M. Night Shyamalan’s controversial “The Last Airbender." The anime-inspired series was known for its depiction of Asian and Inuit culture and characters, and the film sparked protest for casting white actors to play the Asian and indigenous protagonists. Similarly, other live-action anime adaptations such as “Dragonball Evolution”(2009) and “Speed Racer”(2008) feature non-Asian lead characters. Should Dreamworks Studio have opted for an Asian to play Kusanagi, Motoko?

>>675 >>689 These two posters are right. The real problem is how much they will "make it more friendly to the American audience" which means dumbing down plot and replacing key traits with "american" versions. It does not matter if actress is asian or not when the plot and/or her acting are much more important for the end product.

Well first off all while the Yamato people are what people stereotypically consider Japanese there are also the Ainu who are varying degrees of white. But more to the point anime draws it's artistic style from Walt Disney, which is why many anime characters look at least as much white as they do human.
