Welcome to /toon/, a board for the discussion of cartoons and all other forms of animation.
I remember when cartoons were cool
To me it seems that animation quality took a dive in the 70's and 80's, coming out of an era of some really good stuff, think the of Warner Bros, Disney, Hanna-Barbera from the 40s through the 60s. Then nearing the end of the 60's LSD inflicted it's horrible influence on animation and everyone had a collective bad trip on shows like Spiderman and Rocket Robin Hood and animation quality didn't recover until the late 90s. Also I feel that the Simpsons had a certain retardation effect on animation in that it lowered the bar and allowed for really crap slapdash character design. A line drawing filled in with color that looks as if they designed all of the main characters within an hour or two. I still see shows like that and it drives me nuts knowing that the animation can be much more thoughtful. Animation is insanely expensive and when they cut corners on production before anything even goes to the animation company it makes one question just how invested the producers are in the show. I can say there are examples of bad animation through any era, but I never seen so many animation errors and just bad writing as there was through the 70s & 80s. I know there's a lot of love for some of those shows, I can appreciate the so-bad-it's-good aspect of it, but I cringe thinking of all of the hours spent watching some of this stuff "just because it was the only thing that was on" when I was a kid. The days before the internet were dark times.

WHO'S YOUR FRIEND THAT LIKES TO PLAY?
ITT we discuss shows we watch out of greater interest in the sister of the main character than in the titular character himself. To get the secondary a sisters ball rolling I present Summer Hugglemonster. Nothing against Henry but she is cute as fuck. Same voice actress that does Halley.on Astroblast. Really gets to sing here. Mostly interested in focusing on western toons but anime examples are also welcome. Keep in mind it does not count if the sister is the main character.
>>295 I dunno, that's too hard of like a topic to come up with examples of.
>>296 I see no indication of it having a sizeable adult fandom. Baronies will be all about how people should be open-minded to ponies but not apply that to other stuff. >>297 No it isn't. I can find another he airing on Disney right now. Loretta the sister of Miles from Tomorrowland. See left.
>>297 Or going back a ways... It's not that hard.folks.
Jill is.an example.
Throughout the entirety of 12 Oz. Mouse all of the clocks show exactly 2:22, and the characters take note of this. Is this just a freakish coincidence? Also general discussion on the show I guess.
Rick and Morty thread. Season 2 airs in a few weeks. What are your favorite parts of season 1?
I haven't tried it yet. How is this show?
Shit leaked weeks ago https://mega.co.nz/#!vh5SUZRK!7GzOCK3L2jz3qqwmxdHR_pm7pBXBgDjO62aDPGUIHCE https://mega.co.nz/#!nk5EyYRJ!dxBgiJ_w-ufXOSGt9p2uOungxk8X0Yseecv68haQPNU
The season 2 was great. It was pity it had one less chapter, but that is because the first season had the pilot. The final episode in the 2nd season was nuts, tho. You should check the games: http://games.adultswim.com/rick-and-mortys-rushed-licensed-adventure-adventure-online-game.html Rick and Morty's Rushed Licensed Adventure is a graphic adventure, like the LucasArts ones and fully voiced. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.turner.pocketmorties And Pocket Morties is like Pokémon, but with Morties and for your mobile. Very entertaining.
starting it now
Any info on season 3 yet?
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/01/business/media/a-worse-than-expected-55-million-first-quarter-loss-for-dreamworks-animation.html >DreamWorks Animation was hurt by a hefty restructuring charge; increased costs at AwesomenessTV, a YouTube-based entertainment business aimed at teenage girls; and continuing fallout from “The Penguins of Madagascar,” which flopped late last year. The bulk of revenue came from premium television reruns of “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” which was released last summer. >The results for DreamWorks Animation’s “Home,” released on March 27, were mixed. The movie, centered on a misfit alien and a lost African-American girl, received subpar reviews but did much better than expected in North America, taking in $154.6 million as of Wednesday. That eased pressure on the studio, which had been facing liquidity concerns. Man, I didn't even hear about this Home shit.
>>250 Never heard of it until now. How could this fail when its got Rihanna and the guy that says Zimbabwe.
This is a secret movie. Nobody knows about it.
>>250 how did the bulk of revenue come from TV reruns of a movie? it cant be that much money from tv reruns...
i'm gonna be honest: good, the majority of movies/things they made is complete trash. i hope they lose all their money and better animation comes out soon.
What went wrong
Korra! My Love! <3
>>245 I wanted to try an episode but it looked like the show was animated by 3 guys paid in peanuts. Also, it had Falcor for some reason.
